Preparation for Quilting

Before presenting quilt please do the following:

* Clip all loose threads on back and front of quilt

* Stay stitch around the entire edge of quilt - 1/4 inch or less to deter any seams opening

* Make sure the backing fabric is at least 4-6" larger (all around) than the quilt top
Example: a top measuring 66 x 86 would need a backing at least 74 x 94

* Press and square the backing fabric. ( I charge up to $15.00 for this service)

* Press the top (make sure seams are lying flat and that none change direction in pressing)
(I charge up to $25.00 for this service, depending on the work needed)

* DO NOT pin or baste the quilt in any way.  Leave all layers separate

* Mark the top of the quilt with a piece of paper marked "TOP" & pin this to the top with a safety pin

Fill in the Quilting Order Form (see link to left, or on the opposite side of this form) and mail it with the quilt
NOTE:  If you are  going to bring the quilt in, bring this form with you

* I will verify all work with you before starting your project.  Should you decide not to continue,
your quilt will be returned once I have received return postage (if not included in with quilt already)
You are NOT obligated to continue, unless you choose to do so

* Your quilt will be handled with the utmost of care.  Each quilt receives it's own space. My work
area is smoke and pet free

* Binding - this is an extra charge, depending on type of binding you want.  Ask me about pricing
NOTE: there is usually enough backing fabric left to make binding... don't purchase if you want same
color as backing

Also- Please don't provide thread... I can color match if that is what is wanted. Quilting thread is different than what you can purchase in a department store.

I have numerous designs for all over quilting... from basic to elaborate.  Pricing is determined, partly by
what quilt design you choose.  It takes from 2 days, up to three weeks to complete a quilt, depending on
what is being done, the size of the quilt, and the condition I receive it in (if it has puckers, uneven borders, etc.) Repairs take time (at extra charge). Rush orders are charged extra

NOTE: If you are wanting to use a sheet for backing:
Take out all hems & wash the sheet at least twice. Don’t use fabric softener. You are taking out all the additives in the material, and don’t want to add another. Sheets need to be at least 8” wider and longer than the quilt top. Sheets are usually not square & up to 4” can be lost in squaring the fabric.  If you must use a sheet, please keep this in mind when deciding size.

I suggest cotton flannel as it is warm, it's soft,
the quilt won't slide off the bed... did I mention soft & warm?  Otherwise, backing should be of similar
fabric as your top is made from (Flannel is an exception). Should you wish to use a sheet, it needs to have all hems removed, and wash it at least three times to soften the fabric.  Make sure you provide a sheet large enough for me to complete your quilt top. As with any backing, yours sheet needs to be 4” larger all around (extra 8” in width & length) than your quilt top. For example: a top measuring 45 x 56 should have a backing fabric at least 53 x 64”.  I have to have extra room to pin the backing to the machine, and depending on amount of quilting done, the back may draw up slightly.
